At Ruzizi 2 smaller-scale traders are underserved and prefer to use Ruzizi premier. Border offices on both sides of the border and the bridge will be upgraded. The offices will be supplied with water, power and appropriate office furniture. The current cross border market facility will be upgraded on the Bukavu side of the border to accommodate traders’ needs. This simple structure will facilitate commerce at the border post. Currently many traders are forced to sell on the side of the road as existing infrastructure is full. The road connecting the border post to the city of Bukavu is in a poor condition and in need of upgrade to reduce the damage to vehicles, as well as time and cost of moving goods along a relatively short distance. Under this programme the section of road that feeds in Ruzizi 2 border post (approximately 2.7km long each), will be upgraded including all necessary earthworks drainage. For safety reasons the road will also be fitted with electrical lighting. The bridge at Ruzizi 2 will also be rehabilitated. Responsibility Center : 42_DRC Project approval summary: 1. That study, now complete, assessed the impact of port operations on factors such as greenhouse gas emissions, air, water and soil quality, noise and sound by vessels, smoke emitted by ships, waste management, oil spill, marine pollution, energy consumption and utilization, natural resources, wildlife and marine conservation as well as impact on local communities. The output of this exercise informed KPA and other stakeholders in developing a Green Port Policy and an associated implementation plan to support the transformation of the port into a modern and competitive regional hub. The action plan implemented, will reduce operating costs to Kenya Ports Authority and port users, improve labor productivity, minimize accidents, improve health and safety of the workforce, and enhance environmental quality for the port and its surroundings.[/single_project_block_1][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row el_id="desired-result"][vc_column][single_project_block_2 heading="Desired Results" image_1="42672" image_2="42670"]Kenya Ports Authority increases capacity and improves efficiency in handling of cargo and ships for bulk shipping & transport sector.[/single_project_block_2][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row el_id="project-insight"][vc_column][project_single_ele_3_container heading="More Project Insights." sub_heading="Projects Highlights From A Glance" slide_1="info access for 20 crops & over five breeds of livestock" slide_2="info access for 20 crops & over five breeds of livestock" slide_3="info access for 20 crops & over five breeds of livestock"][single_project_content] Development of Resilient...

This high growth has put a strain on existing port infrastructure, necessitating costly investments to improve operations and service delivery. Despite the efforts by Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) to expand capacity and improve efficiency in cargo handling, the port still faces capacity constraints and service delivery challenges. These include low labour productivity, poor cargo off take by rail and road, cargo clearance delays, lack of full automation, operational wastages and poor resource utilization. These are compounded by changing ship technology; poor urban planning around the port; a changing legal and policy environment; corruption occurring along the Northern Corridor. What: TMA and KPA have agreed on a programme of activities to provide KPA with additional capacity to handle increasing demand which include: Legal and Regulatory Revision; Port-wide Productivity Improvement; Infrastructure and Facilities Improvement; Preliminary analysis of the Mombasa Dry Port Initiative; Supporting KPA’s communications with all key stakeholders, decision-makers and communities; Mitigation and adaptation to climate impacts at the Port. Efficient implementation of national and regional NTB mechanisms How: TMA’s support to KPA is delivered through financial aid and technical support.
