Works on Mombasa-Bujumbura road commence-CS

UPGRADING of the Voi-Taveta road has started.

The project is part of the 1,545km Mombasa- Bujumbura Corridor construction.

Industrialisation Cabinet Secretary Adan Mohammed said the proposed route will provide an alternative way from Mombasa port to Burundi, through Tanzania.

The road will pass through Holili Singida in Tanzania and Kabanga Kobero on the Tanzania-Burundi border and finally to Bujumbura.

Mohammed was speaking in Kwale town on Monday during the Pan African Association for Port Cooperation forum.

He said the new route will reduce the distance from Mombasa to Bujumbura by 358km.

“The route will promote trade and fast movement of cargo,” Mohammed said.

The route is expected to reduce the cost of doing business in the Northern Corridor.
