ONE STOP BORDER OPERATIONS AT KOBERO ONE STEP CLOSER WITH SIGNING OF CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT

Operations at the one stop border post (OSBP) between Tanzania and Burundi are one step closer with the signing of a construction agreement.

The contract between Trade Mark East Africa ( TMA ) Burundi and Chinese Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC)-Rwanda for the construction of Kobero OSBP was signed on Friday 20 June 2014 at the TradeMark Africa (TMA) Burundi office. Traders in particular have welcomed this move which will reduce time and costs it takes to cross the border, thus improving on their overall bottom-line. Stakeholders are keen for an efficient and timely implementation.

Both parties expressed eagerness to start up this important construction. In her remarks, Mrs Anthe Vrijlandt, TradeMark Africa (TMA) Burundi Country Director, called for transparency throughout the execution of the project, as this will empower cooperation. The General Manager of CCECC later echoed the same sentiment and added that CCECC is committed to meet all established deadlines unless circumstances beyond his control occurred.

Present during the signing ceremony were Mr. Cyprien Ntibahanuza, OBR Director of Administration and Procurement and Mr. Desire Nizigiyimana, Director of Public Works. They both expressed their satisfaction to see the construction of this important border post for Burundi statistics.
