This route is considerably longer than the Taveta/Holili route. Operationalising the Taveta/Holili border is expected to increase with the construction of a new Voi-Arusha road passing through the two border points, stretching the capacity of the current infrastructure and operations and increase waiting time for import and export processing. Increased delays create costs for traders. What: A one stop border post is being constructed at Taveta/Holili border points How: TMA is providing funding for the construction of the OSBP and is supporting the lead agencies to implement the project on time and ensure quality. Holili border post serves traffic to and from Northern Tanzania and the sea port of Mombasa. With the current traffic volume crossing Taveta / Holili border posts and the anticipated significant increase in traffic volume once the Voi-Taveta part of the road is upgraded, efficient movement of goods and people through the two border posts is very critical to facilitate trade within the EAC region. The increase is likely because the distance by road from Mombasa port to Himo junction in Tanzania is much shorter (about 472 kilometres) compared to the much longer distance from Dar es Salaam port to the Himo junction (about 935 kilometres). What: The project focuses on setting up the institutional and legal framework necessary for increasing collaboration in border management at inter-agency and bilateral levels, reviewing and implementing one stop border post procedures, training border agency officials, and installing ICT networks, hardware, furniture and equipment. Operationalisation of a one stop border post at Kagitumba and Mirama Hills is expected to decrease the time for goods to be transported between Kampala and Kigali and increase the volume of traffic using this route. Tunduma OSBP construction

[vc_row][vc_column][custom_inner_menus select_menu="project"][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][single_project_block_1 heading="Tunduma One Stop Border Post " implementor="Tanzania Revenue Authority" target_group="Importers and exporters" project_value="US$ 7,940,000" implementation_period="2011-2020" download_btn_text="Download Project PDF" download_btn_link="https://www.trademarkafrica.com/download/60859/"]This project involves construction and provision of physical facilities at the Tunduma border that includes: administration buildings and an inspection shed to accommodate the adjoining states’ border agencies and roads to facilitate the exit and entry into the OSBP. The overall aim is to facilitate the efficient cross border movement of trucks/vehicles, goods and persons. What: A one stop border post is being constructed at the Tunduma border point. Key outputs: Improved border post and IT infrastructure (Integrated Border Management). Harmonized working procedures on both sides of the border. Training for border agency staff, freight forwarders and traders. How: TMA is providing full funding for the construction of the OSBP and is working with relevant border agencies to set up mechanisms for integrated border management. Harmonization of customs procedures is undertaken by a joint task force of experts from Tanzania and Zambia. The project is implemented in coordination with other ongoing initiatives of the World Bank, JICA, USAID, the African Development Bank and the European Union. The OSBP is also linked to the numerous TMA single window initiatives.
